After graduating from Mars Hill College in 1995, Patrick Crudup worked for the Asheville Parks and Recreation Department, using skills he acquired while studying recreation administration. In 2002, he joined the Asheville Fire Department and completed the Firefighter Training Academy. Since then, he has worked hard to serve the AFD and has achieved the rank of Battalion Chief, the first African American in that position in AFD history.
